The Indian government announced that it is mandatory to link Aadhaar with pan card last year before 31 December. The new deadline to link Pan Aadhaar online extended to 31 March 2020. If you have a Pan card and want to link with Aadhar then you must read this post till the end. For this, you need a Pan card and Aadhar card in your hand to link them together. There are three methods to link aadhar with Pan card. You can choose which method suitable for you.

How to Link Pan Aadhar card

Method 1: Pan Aadhaar link online via Income Tax website

Step 1: For this, you have to go to the Income-tax e-portal website and then click on the register option. You can check this option on your right-hand side of the website.

Step 2: If you are already an old member of this website then you have to enter your Login ID, password and date of birth to confirm your identity.

Step 3: After you log in your account there will be a pop-up window Pan Aadhaar link appears to you asking about link Aadhaar. You have to click on that pop-up window to link your Aadhar card with Pan card.
If you didn't show any pop-up window on your screen then you have to go to the right side of the website where you can find "Link Aadhar" Option written. You have to click on that to start the Pan Aadhar link online process.

Step 4: After you click on that link you have to enter some details about your Aadhar card and Pan card and your name as per Aadhaar card. You have to check the Aadhaar and Pan card and enter the correct details there.

Step 5: Next you have to fill the captcha code shown to you in the box provided.

People with Visually challenged users also request for an OTP code. That code is sent to your registered Aadhaar card mobile number.

Step 6: When you fill your details then press the "Link now" button below that.

After that there will be a confirmation message shows on the screen about you can successfully link Aadhaar with your Pan card. In some cases, you will show your request will be added and soon your Pan card link with Aadhaar card.
In that case, you can again go to Income tax E-Portal after some time and click on the red-colored "Click here" on the top left side of the page to check your Pan Aadhaar link status.

Method 2: Pan Aadhaar link online without logging to the Website

This is another method to link Pan Aadhaar card without logging into the Income Tax website. For this read the below points carefully.

Step 1: You need to go the Income Tax e-portal website

Step 2: Check the option written on the right of the website says about "Link Aadhaar"

Step 3: After that, you have to fill all the required details about your Aadhaar card and Pan card on the website.

Step 4: Next you have to press the "Link Aadhaar" button below.

Hopefully, you can successfully see the message that your Pan Aadhar link online. In some cases, you will show your request will be added and soon your Pan card link with Aadhaar card.

In that case, you can again go to Income tax E-Portal after some time and click on the red-colored "Click here" on the top left side of the page to check your Pan Aadhar link status.

Method 3: Pan Aadhar link online via SMS

You can also Pan Aadhaar link via sending Sms. For that, you have to send a message from your mobile to complete the process.

For that, you have to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in the Aadhaar card.

Write UIDPAN (in capital letters) your 12 digit Aadhaar card number and your 10 digit Pan card number and send it to 567678 or 56161.

FAQ related to Pan Aadhar Link Online Status

Q. I have enrolled for Aadhaar number but I'm yet to receive the Aadhaar number, am I able to still file my tax return?

Ans. Yes, you'll quote the EID number mentioned on the Acknowledgement/ EID slip provided by the enrolment center at the time of enrolment while filing the tax return.

Q. Is it mandatory to enroll for Aadhaar to use for PAN in India? If yes, then what's the method for NRIs?

Ans. Section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961 as bringing by the Finance Act, 2017 provides for mandatory quoting of Aadhaar /Enrolment ID of Aadhaar form, for filing of return of income and for creating an application for allotment of Permanent Account Number with effect from July 1’ 2017.

Q. Mandatory quoting of Aadhaar or Enrolment ID will apply only to an individual who is eligible to get Aadhaar number.

Ans. As per the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of monetary and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, only a resident individual is entitled to get Aadhaar. Resident as per the said Act means a private who has resided in India for a period or periods amounting altogether to 182 days or more within the 12 months immediately preceding the date of application for enrolment.

Q. Will my PAN become non-functional if I don't link it to Aadhaar?

Ans. UIDAI only issues Aadhaar and provides means to authenticate an equivalent. For any product or scheme related queries, we request you to please get in-tuned with the respective product/scheme owner. For PAN related queries, you're requested to please contact the tax department.

Q. My date of birth in PAN and Aadhaar doesn't match. unable to link them. Pls, help?

Ans. You will need to correct your date of birth, either with Aadhaar or with PAN to link both. In-case linking problem still persists, we request you to please get in-tuned with the tax department.

Q. My name is different in PAN and Aadhaar. it's not allowing me to link both. What to do?

Ans. In order to Link Aadhaar with PAN, ideally, your demographic details (i.e. Name, Gender and Date of Birth) should match in both the documents.

In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar's name provided by the taxpayer in comparison to the particular data in Aadhaar, just one occasion Password (Aadhaar OTP) is going to be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar. Taxpayers should make sure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are precisely the same.
